Symbolism In Life

I started creating art when I was very young, around four years old. I knew at this young age that visually expressing myself was what I wanted to do with my life. As my expressions in art matured, I began to see a common thread to the spiritual theme which I have been veering towards. Feathers, windows, angels, hands, birds and surreal landscapes are themes most prevalent in my work at the present time. Symbolism is also a great influence in my paintings. Disguised symbolism has intrigued me since I became enamored by the religious paintings of the Renaissance. This type of symbolism is woven throughout my work and is a strong part of the intrigue in creating my work.

"William Butler Yeats, the famous Irish Poet of the twentieth century, noted for his elusive imagery and symbolic structures once said, “A symbol is indeed the only possible expression of some invisible essence, a transparent lamp about a spiritual flame…” Symbolism is an art, a creative way of conveying allegorical meaning using symbols and pictorial conventions. In simple terms, symbols are literal pictograms or graphic ideographs used to whip up obscured meanings that lie beyond the obvious. Symbolism exists to adorn and beautify and is often defined as the concrete representation of the abstract. A symbol can represent anything, right from ideas to doctrines, to different feelings.

My artwork is symbolic in nature and expresses my vision of life in symbolic terms. Images which I am drawn to are spiritual in nature such as angels, feathers, hearts, candles, etc.
